One of the great memories of my childhood is of my grandfather taking me on winter walks along the shoreline. We would approach from behind the dunes and then burst out on to the beach, climbing all over the great, thick cakes of porous salt ice left along the shore by the receding tide. And then we would go to lunch. It's such a sweet memory and hangs in my visual bank.
